Consider what has happened to our society in just the last couple of decades: school
shootings; 9/11; wars; ponzi schemes; corruption in all levels of government; corporate
corruption; drive-
Popular culture likes to poke fun at the “Ozzie and Harriet”, “Father Knows Best” days. But if you’re old enough to remember them, you know things were better then. Not perfect, but better.
What caused this chaos? Can we identify the underlying causes? Yes, there are just two…
The first is: We’ve told God to get out of our lives. Get out of our schools; get out of our football games; get out of our government; stay out of the workplace; and even… get out of our Christmas holiday.
Why have people worked so hard for 20 years to get God out of America? The answer is simple: THEY DON’T LIKE HIS RULES.
If God is out of the way, then it’s just us humans. Since we’re all created equal… excuse me…all descended equally from the same monkey, then your opinion is just as valid as mine. Your sense of right and wrong is just as valid as mine.
So if you want to marry someone of the same sex, who am I to tell you it’s wrong? If you want to abort a baby, who am I to tell you you can’t?
For this one reason only, lots of people with different agendas have worked together on this one goal: to get rid of God. And to a great degree, they’ve succeeded. Our president recently made the statement in Europe that we are not a Christian nation. In Egypt he said that we might even be considered a Muslim nation.
Our forebears would certainly be surprised to hear that. For in their minds, there was no doubt that this was and would always be a Christian nation.
We certainly need to make major changes in our policies and programs. But I’m convinced of this: Unless we invite God back into our country and again show Him the respect he deserves, nothing we do will work!
Unless the Lord builds the house, it’s builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the
watchmen stand guard in vain. Psalms 127:1
The second underlying cause is admittedly oversimplified, but nevertheless true: All the problems we have can be traced to 545 people? 535 Congressmen and Senators, 9 Supreme Court Justices, and 1 President. Our debts total approximately $75 trillion dollars. We’re in a deep recession, and these leaders tell us we can spend our way out of it. Now think about it… Has that ever worked for you? Does it make any sense to you at all that while deeply in debt, we can spend our way out of the problem?
Our current recession is a result of corruption and self-
Politics has devolved to one thing: getting 50.1% of the vote. Do your slice and dice; find your interest groups; buy them off with a special program or tax advantage. Politicians have lost all capacity to think about what’s good for the country. But... You and I voted for them.
As my children were becoming teenagers, we taught them how to make good decisions. As they got older, we had to let them test their wings… let them make their own decisions. They didn’t always make good ones. They sometimes put off the hard / best choice in favor of the easy / fun one. Our legislators have been acting like teenagers for years. And sadly, there are no easy decisions left.
The proposals that follow will put our country back on the road to societal health, prosperity, and prominence in the world. But let me be candid here…there is pain attached to all of them. Everyone will find something to hate here. To get well, we’re going to have to take some medicine.
As I mentioned earlier, nothing we do will solve our problems until we get back on good terms with God. Once we do that, He’ll bless our efforts… He’ll heal our land. So before we move on to the changes we need to make, let’s review where we came from.
